Time: September 19, 2009 from 8:30am to 6pm
Location: Thoughtworks Office
City/Town: Chicago
Event Type: code, retreat
Organized By: Corey Haines
Latest Activity: Sep 18, 2009
Thoughtworks is sponsoring a code retreat in Chicago, IL! They are providing the room and funding for some food. Huzzah!
This will follow the same format as other code retreats with one exception: this will be in Ruby instead of Java.
We generally use Java as the language of choice, since most everybody can write code in it. Ruby, on the other hand, especially when you couple it with RSpec, or other frameworks, can be confusing to people unfamiliar with it.
Note: This code retreat will be done in Ruby. We won't be spending time getting Ruby set up on machines, nor learning Ruby. If you are coming, please make sure that you have Ruby installed and working, as well as an editor of your choice. Any gems that you normally use (rspec, shoulda, cucumber, rails, etc.) should be already installed. Code Retreat is not intended to be a language learning day, rather a practicing/honing of what you know.
