Event Description

Ruby Code Retreat in Pittsburgh. Many thanks to Vivisimo and the Pittsburgh Ruby Brigade for hosting and sponsoring the event!

Parking
There are two parking garages near Vivisimo, however, they charge 25 cents per 15 minutes. Free parking is available on nearby residential streets. I've updated the event map to highlight some of the best places to park.

Note:This code retreat will be done in Ruby. We won't be spending time getting Ruby set up on machines, nor learning Ruby. If you are coming, please make sure that you have Ruby installed and working, as well as an editor of your choice. Any gems that you normally use (rspec, shoulda, cucumber, rails, etc.) should be already installed. Code Retreat is not intended to be a language learning day, rather a practising/honing of what you know.

For me this was a great way to spend a day, no deadlines, no pressure just the time to think and learn. Big thanks to Jim, Vivisimo for enabling this to happen. And to Corey for doing this kind of thing you are spreading the word ... like a true journeyman, great stuff and my most sincere gratitude.

Just wanted to thank Jim for organizing, Vivisimo and PRB for hosting and sponsoring, Corey for presiding, and everyone who attended. Quality time spent with insightful people, I enjoyed it greatly. Can't wait to do it again.

Here are some other hotels you might want to look at. These ones are located in Oakland (which is very close to Squirrel Hill):

I had to ask around because I've never had to stay at any of the local hotels. Matt Otto has some excellent information for you:

----

The closest would probably be either Shadyside Inn or Sunnyledge, but
those are both "botique" B&B type places so they are priced
accordingly.

Sunnyledge Hotel of Shadyside

The nearest normal hotels I can think of are the Courtyard, Holiday
Inn, or the Wyndam in Oakland. I know a previous employer used to use
the Courtyard as their default hotel and there were never any
complaints. I'd try the Wyndham as a last resort as it is the furthest
from the event.

Absolutely. Sorry for the confusion. We'll be following the schedule posted on Corey Haine's Code Retreat: How It Works web page. Breakfast starts at 8:00am, but we won't actually get started until between 8:30 and 9:00am. The final session will be around 4:30 - 5:00pm.
